Democracy Dies in Darkness

A White House teleprompter operator has been placed on unpaid leave due to involvement in online prediction market activities linked to President Donald Trump’s public statements. This action followed the identification of the bets by federal regulators.

On July 16, 2026, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, announced that the president had decided to place the operator on leave. This measure was taken after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission flagged the individual’s activities.

President Donald Trump was previously seen speaking in front of a teleprompter during an event in Dalton, Georgia, back in January 2021. The teleprompter operator’s wagering on public remarks has raised concerns regarding ethical conduct in the White House.
