Following UFC 329, there was a heated debate surrounding Conor McGregor’s knee injury. Many questioned if McGregor was already injured before the fight. This speculation grew when a video spread on social media. The footage showed McGregor stumbling as he tried to remove his shoes on the way to the Octagon.
Some believed the video was evidence that McGregor had injured his right knee beforehand, affecting his fight against Max Holloway. However, the real story has now been clarified.
McGregor responded to fan queries on X. One fan asked about the perceived knee issues, saying, ‘Looked like you were having issues with your knee prior to the fight.’ McGregor responded, ‘More nonsense. I had zero issue. The taking off of my shoe at octagon side, a sweaty foot, without a sock on, pulling off the shoe with the ball of my free foot. It was a brief disbalance. If even.’
The fight concluded with McGregor losing by TKO only 69 seconds into the first round. The referee stopped the contest when McGregor failed to support his weight on his right knee, injured during an attempted leaping roundhouse kick at the fight’s start.
This failed move was also discussed by McGregor on Friday. He stated, ‘A foot too early for sure. Never going to work, I disagree. The eagerness/rush out the gate is what 5 years out of the game will do. Noted and corrected. I’ll get it right. I’m getting closer, that is my mindset.’
Earlier this week, McGregor declared his intention to undergo surgery and complete the final fight on his UFC contract. He has expressed a desire for a rematch against Holloway.
