Mass Shooting in Tucson Leaves 10 Injured

At least 10 people were injured during a mass shooting in downtown Tucson, Arizona, early on Sunday morning. A gunman opened fire in a crowded entertainment district. Police have not released the suspect’s identity.

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) reported that the suspect attempted to escape the scene but was shot by an officer. He was then taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mayor Regina Romero stated that although nine victims were shot, no fatalities occurred. The victims primarily suffered injuries to their arms and legs.

Last night, Tucson experienced another serious and senseless act of gun violence. A shooter recklessly began shooting in a crowded area striking nine people before being stopped by a Tucson Police Officer.

The incident took place around 2 a.m. on East Congress Street, known for its nightlife. Nearby officers heard gunshots and arrived on foot to find the suspect fleeing. After ignoring police commands, a uniformed officer shot the suspect, according to TPD reports. Officers detained him and provided first aid before Tucson Fire Department staff transported him to the hospital.

Emergency responders also aided victims before moving them to nearby hospitals. No officers sustained injuries during the incident. Mayor Romero credited the quick actions of first responders for stabilizing all victims, who are expected to recover.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will lead the investigation into the officer’s use of force, while TPD will conduct a separate investigation regarding any policy violations.

Romero expressed strong disapproval of the shooting, criticizing Arizona’s lax gun safety laws. She called for stricter measures like universal background checks and increased funding for violence prevention.
