Geneva Arts Fair to Feature Talented Artisans This Weekend

This weekend, South Third Street in downtown Geneva transforms into the setting for the juried Geneva Arts Fair. This annual two-day event highlights skilled artisans from across the country.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26. It offers a chance to explore unique artistic expressions while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Geneva. Among the featured artists is Elizabeth Kindig, a painter specializing in still life and landscapes. She will present her art near the Kane County Historic Courthouse, located between James and Campbell streets. Kindig employs oils, acrylics, and pastels in her work.

“I often play with color and abstraction to evoke my memories of the farm where I grew up,” Kindig shared on her website.

Originally from Indiana, she relocated to Geneva two years ago with her husband and daughter. Her paintings have found resonance in depicting heirlooms, inspired by her childhood experiences.

“In my still life work, I aim to reclaim the significance of heirlooms often stored away,” she explained. Her fascination with family history began as a child in her grandfather’s farmhouse in Indiana. This passion now extends to accepting commissions to paint family heirlooms for others.

One notable project included painting a Standard Oil work coat for a client, capturing specific hand-sewn details that tie personal history with artistry. “Now it’s an heirloom to pass on to the next generation,” Kindig expressed.

After growing up in northwest Indiana, Kindig pursued teaching humanities before dedicating herself entirely to painting upon moving to Geneva. Her work encapsulates her family’s legacy and the rural landscape she knew well.
