Liam Barrett, a junior at St. Charles East, continues a family legacy in football, particularly in the offensive line. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-7, Barrett is preparing for his second varsity season, moving from right to left tackle. His coach, Nolan Possley, is enthusiastic about Barrett anchoring the line, especially since he already holds six Division I scholarship offers.

The Influence of Brothers Dylan and Austin

Barrett follows in the footsteps of his older siblings, Dylan and Austin, who have also excelled as offensive linemen. Dylan, a guard, started at Wisconsin and played at Iowa State, later joining the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. Austin, a tackle, started at Indiana before transferring to Iowa State, where he will play his redshirt senior season.

Outside of football, Barrett’s other brother, Evan, is preparing for his senior year at Illinois-Chicago with aspirations of attending medical school.

Liam’s Growth and Training

Barrett credits his success to his brothers, who challenged and supported him from a young age. He recalls backyard games and gym workouts that contributed to his development. His dedication is evident, as he has increased his weight from 230 pounds last season to 260 pounds now.

Coach Possley has noted Barrett’s potential, seeing him as a hybrid of his older siblings, combining physical strength and athleticism.

Position Training and Scholarship Offers

Alongside school training, Barrett works with OL Mafia in Naperville, honing his skills with Nate Oquendo. He focuses on strength, speed, footwork, and tactical understanding. His efforts have yielded scholarship offers from several schools, including Iowa State, Kansas, and Cincinnati.

Described as a nice kid off the field, Barrett is known for his intensity during games. He emphasizes that offensive line play requires more than just strength, stating, “O-line is more than brute strength — half of it is IQ.”
