When Jake Paul entered professional boxing, skepticism was widespread. His opponents mainly comprised retired MMA fighters such as Anderson Silva, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz. Additionally, he fought a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, which fueled doubts about his boxing career.
Paul has a record of 12 wins and 2 losses. However, his matches with established pro boxers highlight his challenges. He faced defeats against Anthony Joshua and Tommy Fury, with his only victory against 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. coming through a decision. His loss to Joshua was severe, resulting in a broken jaw and possibly making Paul reconsider his professional path.
At 29, Paul, initially known as a YouTuber, believes he can establish a new career in the NFL. He claims to have initiated conversations with several teams expressing interest in signing him. He stated to Front Office Sports, “I have a couple teams and coaches that I’ve already talked to that are interested in bringing me onto the team. It’s really going to be quite easy.”
Paul’s last experience in competitive football dates back over a decade to his time at Westlake High School, where he played on the varsity team during his freshman and sophomore years before leaving to build an entertainment career. Still, he is confident in his abilities to excel in the NFL. He critiques the current league for its mediocrity and is confident in his skills, saying, “I think there’s a lot of super mediocrity in the NFL. A lot of not good athletes. A lot of people dropping passes on a consistent basis. I have better hands than them, I’m faster than them, I’m stronger than them, I work harder than them—really all it’s going to take after boxing is me practicing some routes.”
Paul expressed interest in joining the Cleveland Browns, his childhood favorite team, largely due to his and his mother’s fandom. Despite this aspiration, NFL insider Benjamin Albright reported that while Paul’s team reached out to the Denver Broncos, the team declined the opportunity.
