Two historic documents signed by President Abraham Lincoln were temporarily removed from the Lincoln Memorial. The removal occurred on July 16 due to elevated temperatures in their display cases.
These documents included a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation. It was displayed at the Lincoln Memorial undercroft on June 18. The temperatures in the display cases reached unsafe levels, prompting the urgent removal to prevent damage.
A spokesperson for the donor confirmed on Monday morning that the documents remained undamaged. This incident highlights the importance of maintaining proper environmental conditions for preserving significant historical artifacts.
