Secret Service Acknowledges Iran-Linked Video Targeting Melania Trump

1 week ago 0

The U.S. Secret Service has confirmed its awareness of a video linked to Iran that targets First Lady Melania Trump. The agency stated that it reviews any potential threats to people under its protection.

The Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,

said Nate Herring, a lead public affairs specialist with the Secret Service’s Communications and Media Relations office. In a cautionary move, Herring also noted, Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.

The video, reportedly circulated through an Iranian state-linked media channel, comes amid increased tensions between Washington and Tehran. The focus on targeting the first lady signifies an expansion of public rhetoric that has primarily targeted President Donald Trump. Though the Secret Service has not identified a specific threat from the video, its acknowledgment indicates ongoing scrutiny of potential risks to those under its protection.

Both Melania Trump and her son Barron receive full-time Secret Service protection. The attention drawn by the Secret Service’s statement highlights the serious nature of the content, especially given its dissemination through a state-linked Iranian outlet.

Increase in Public Focus

Hostile statements toward President Trump have been frequent from Iranian officials since the conflict began, with the president himself drawing public attention to threats against him. He has described Tehran as wanting to take out the U.S. leader—me, and discussed plans for a robust U.S. response if any harm should come to him, emphasizing his readiness to protect American interests.

Security fears over alleged Iranian threats have influenced presidential decisions, including a reported switch in aircraft due to concerns about safety while traveling home from a NATO summit.

Potential Congressional Response

Congress, especially Republican members adopting a tough stance on Iran, may become more vocal as the situation evolves. The White House and the First Lady’s office had not provided comments at the time of reporting.

Newsweek’s editors, Samantha Beech and Gray R. Thomas, are managing the coverage regarding these developments.
