U.S. Army’s New Maritime Warfare System: ‘Hammer of the Gods’

The U.S. Army has disclosed a significant advancement in its military technology capabilities. A new warfare system specifically designed to disrupt enemy navigation signals in precision weapons has been tested overseas. This system aims to make it difficult for adversaries to accurately target from long ranges while remaining undetected.

Dubbed the “Hammer of the Gods,” the electronic system was initially tested at sea off the U.S. West Coast in mid-July. This marks its first demonstration as part of the Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-C6) experiment. Prior tests have shown the capacity of land-based versions over the past two years. However, the maritime variant made its official debut through this exercise.

This portable disruptor can reportedly impair the guidance of several precision weapons, including long-range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise missiles. The system achieves this by jamming positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) signals, like GPS data, which precision weapons depend on for effective navigation. Without reliable PNT data, weapon efficacy declines, potentially leading to delayed missions and missed targets.

In addition to its jamming capabilities, the system fosters a robust communications network, allowing friendly forces to maintain connectivity even under substantial electronic disruption. It effectively links military devices so that troops can continue essential operations, such as shooting, moving, and communicating, even in compromised environments.

Army officials confirmed that the system’s performance during the maritime exercise confirmed its capability to be launched, operated, and recovered successfully under real-world conditions. The test involved collaboration among the U.S. Army, Navy, Space Force, and affiliated commands, integrating space, cyber, and conventional strengths to optimize the exercise.
