Meghan Markle’s Approval Rating Decline
In the second quarter of 2026, Meghan Markle’s net approval rating in the UK fell to minus 43, marking a record low in this metric. YouGov Ratings shows that from April to June, 18 percent of people liked the Duchess of Sussex, while 61 percent expressed dislike. This contrasts with the first quarter when her approval stood at minus 21, with 26 percent liking her and 47 percent disapproving. The data indicates a 22-point drop in her net approval within the quarter.
Context of the Decline
The decline comes during a challenging year for Meghan. In March, Netflix withdrew as an equity partner from her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Despite this setback, in April, Meghan and Prince Harry made a prominent visit to Australia. Additionally, in May, she addressed the risks of social media in a speech in Geneva, Switzerland.
Strategic Relevance of Approval Ratings
Although Meghan left the British royal family in 2020, she is looking to expand her lifestyle business As Ever internationally, where the UK remains a key market. According to Similarweb, the UK shows consistent interest that is vital for her global expansion plans.
On the other hand, Prince Harry seems increasingly focused on the UK, evident after Birmingham was selected over Washington D.C. to host the 2027 Invictus Games. The Sussex family visited the UK in July for the first time since 2022, reuniting with King Charles III.
