Baker Mayfield Feels Underappreciated by Buccaneers, Focused on Performance

Baker Mayfield, the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, expressed feeling “disrespected” due to not receiving the contract extension he wanted. Despite this, he is concentrating on delivering strong performances. Currently in the last season of his three-year, $100 million contract, Mayfield remains committed to his craft.

During a press statement, Mayfield shared his view of Tampa as home for his family, emphasizing their love for the area. He had sought a new contract before prioritizing football, and he believes the offers he received did not match his contributions to the team.

Mayfield highlighted his gratitude towards the franchise for the opportunities provided but underscored the impact he has made both in leadership and performance. After replacing Tom Brady in 2023, he revitalized his career in Tampa, earning Pro Bowl selections in his first two seasons and helping the Buccaneers claim consecutive NFC South titles. He was an MVP contender mid-season last year with a 6-2 start but faced challenges due to injuries.

Mayfield set a personal deadline for contract negotiations before training camp, using that to minimize potential distractions. His 2024 performance statistics could necessitate a higher salary offer, with estimates placing his potential earnings at $50-55 million per year.

Ben Bredeson, an offensive lineman, noted Mayfield’s unwavering dedication, affirming his role as a leader and consistent performer. Defensive tackle Vita Vea also faced contract uncertainties, coupled with a back injury that kept him from initial practice sessions.
