Apple Pay Experiences Service Disruptions, Users Report Payment Issues

On Friday, Apple Pay encountered service disruptions, with users experiencing problems in processing transactions and transferring funds. The outage-tracking website Downdetector recorded a spike in reports as customers were unable to make payments through Apple’s digital wallet service. By nearly 6 p.m. ET, close to 1,400 issues were reported.

According to Downdetector, the majority of complaints centered around funds transfers and payment processing. As of the latest updates, Apple had not confirmed the outage or offered an explanation for the issues. Newsweek contacted Apple for comments on Friday afternoon.

Apple Pay enables users to make contactless and online purchases using various Apple products like iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. Outages affecting these services have occurred previously, with users encountering problems such as failed transactions, Apple Cash transfer issues, and difficulties accessing Wallet features. Although these outages are generally resolved quickly, they can temporarily hinder users’ ability to complete purchases or send funds.

Understanding the ‘Unable to Connect to Wallet Services’ Error

During the disruption, many users reported encountering an “Unable to Connect to Wallet Services” error message when attempting to access Apple Wallet or conduct transactions. This message indicates a communication issue between the Wallet app and Apple’s backend systems. It may prevent users from adding cards, verifying payment methods, or finalizing purchases.

Although the precise cause of Friday’s problems was not immediately identified, similar errors are known to occur during server outages or service disruptions involving Apple Pay and Wallet services.
