AI’s Impact on the Legal Industry: Insights from Alex Spiro

High-profile attorney Alex Spiro believes artificial intelligence will reshape the legal industry. Speaking on the tech talk show TBPN, Spiro noted AI’s potential to streamline legal processes, particularly in deciding whether a case should go to trial or be settled swiftly.

Spiro, known for representing prominent figures like Elon Musk and Alec Baldwin, explained that AI can help lawyers reach the truth faster and make quicker decisions. “If you can do that, then you can make quicker decisions,” Spiro stated. This could reduce the number of cases bogged down in prolonged litigation.

He emphasized how AI could lead to fewer indecisive, drawn-out court battles. Cases will either settle quickly or proceed to trial, cutting out what Spiro refers to as the “fat in the middle.” This advancement may result in more cases going to trial since lawyers can better identify which cases are worth fighting.

Despite technological progress, Spiro mentioned it would not alter his approach to case trials. “There are argumentative techniques that work and some that don’t,” he said. He maintains the same methods in presenting to juries, regardless of AI advancements.

While AI might influence case analysis, Spiro assured it wouldn’t affect client confidence. He quipped, “I represent almost exclusively clients that think they know more about the law. It’s my specialty.” His approach remains grounded even as the legal landscape evolves with AI’s integration.
