Recently released deposition transcripts reveal that Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, claims severe financial constraints imposed by mounting legal fees. The deposition is linked to an ongoing lawsuit against law firm Winston Taylor over unpaid legal expenses. The firm reportedly represents leading Democrats and alleges Hunter Biden owes $17 million for legal services related to criminal cases, congressional inquiries, and defamation lawsuits against his detractors.

“My family doesn’t have any money, and it’s not their debt anyway,” Biden stated. He mentioned that his only assets are his own paintings, the value of which he is uncertain. Biden emphasized he owns no other valuables, such as savings accounts or securities.

Challenges Faced by the Biden Family

The claims of financial struggle mirror other reports about the Biden family’s financial challenges. According to The Wall Street Journal, Joe Biden, after his White House tenure, faced significant financial issues, including around $800,000 in personal debt and increased property taxes on their Delaware residence. Additionally, he reportedly faced difficulties securing well-paid speaking engagements, a typical avenue for former presidents to generate income.

Despite these issues, Joe Biden receives over $400,000 annually in government pensions, based on data from the National Taxpayers Union Foundation. Hunter Biden’s financial predicament is attributed to a lifestyle marked by excessive spending on drugs, alcohol, and luxury items, which reportedly depleted his assets despite earning substantial income from selling art and his previous high-paying role at the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.

Legal Disputes and Recent Developments

Hunter Biden contends that Winston Taylor was aware of his inability to settle the legal fees when they agreed to represent him, implying an understanding to “work something out.” In contrast, the law firm states it attempted to seek financial assistance from Democratic donors to help cover Biden’s expenses.

In July, Hunter Biden achieved a minor legal success when a court awarded him $1.7 million in a defamation case. However, Winston Taylor has placed a lien on this judgment. Retrieval of this sum remains complex as Patrick Byrne, the defendant in the case, is reportedly overseas.
