Key acquisitions include right-handers Clay Holmes and Kevin Gausman, reliever Ryan Zeferjahn, left-hander Braxton Garrett, and outfielder Tyrone Taylor. Zeferjahn and Garrett offer long-term team control.

To secure these players, the Cubs traded several prospects, notably former top prospect Moisés Ballesteros and two of its top 10 prospects.

Garrett adds depth at Triple-A Iowa and provides future options for the starting lineup. A six-man rotation may be utilized; however, it could strain the bullpen.

“We have a pitching staff that’s more reinforced, but they’re a really good team, and the pressure is on us,” Hoyer emphasized.
