Jesse Watters recently criticized Scott Pelley on his show, ‘Jesse Watters Primetime.’ Watters called Pelley a ‘drama queen’ after Pelley emotionally recounted his dismissal from CBS, drawing a parallel to a spouse’s murder. This incident brought attention to media bias and caused a stir.
Nick Bilton, the new executive producer of ’60 Minutes,’ aims to reduce leaks and rumors about the show’s internal affairs. Bilton, whose appointment followed significant changes in staffing, addressed the issue in a memo shared with the staff and acquired by Fox News Digital. Bilton insisted that 95% of circulating rumors were fabricated.
“Since I started here there has been roughly a rumor a day. About me, about you, about what’s coming next – 95% are fabrications and blatantly incorrect,” Bilton stated in his memo. “I no longer have the time or the patience for them, and I’d rather we spend that energy on the stories.”
Bilton emphasized transparency, encouraging staff to approach him directly with concerns. He expressed his desire for the focus to remain on the program’s content rather than rumors.
The memo also included logistical updates as the show approaches its 59th season. Among these updates is the introduction of a digital story board, replacing the traditional dry-erase format.
Bilton also addressed queries about office attendance by suggesting that collaboration is crucial to producing quality work, urging staff to gather in the office when not actively out reporting.
This change in leadership came after CBS News’ Bari Weiss selected Bilton to revamp the program, with past leadership and several correspondents, such as Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, being let go.
The latest restructuring efforts were met with mixed reactions among staff. Bilton recently announced that Norah O’Donnell and Ross Douthat would join ’60 Minutes’ as correspondents. Additional contributors include journalist Sebastian Junger and former Vice News correspondent Gianna Toboni.
This transition signifies a new chapter for ’60 Minutes,’ amid controversies and an evolving broadcast landscape. As the show moves forward, its leadership faces the challenge of maintaining its reputation while managing internal dynamics and enhancing its storytelling methodologies.
