In the opening game of the NFL preseason, rookie quarterback Haynes King delivered a thrilling performance by scoring on the last play to lead the Carolina Panthers to a 33-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game.
The former standout from Georgia Tech finished with 180 passing yards and two touchdowns, adding 39 rushing yards. His agility and decision-making were key to the Panthers’ win.
Arizona’s rookie quarterback, Carson Beck, also had a promising start. Before his exhibition debut concluded, Beck recorded 188 passing yards and one touchdown, showing potential for the Cardinals.
The game saw some exciting moments, including Cardinals quarterback Kedon Slovis tossing a 1-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Green, regaining a short-lived 30-27 lead for Arizona.
Despite both teams resting their starters, King led the Panthers confidently. His connection with Anthony Tyus III for a 4-yard touchdown helped Carolina take a 24-20 lead in the fourth quarter. Earlier, he had connected with Ja’Seem Reed for another touchdown.
The Hall of Fame Game underscores the talents of both teams’ up-and-coming players, displaying their readiness for the upcoming season.
The game also highlighted the induction of notable football figures into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This year’s class includes quarterback Drew Brees, running back Roger Craig, kicker Adam Vinatieri, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, and linebacker Luke Kuechly.
