Carson Beck’s Promising Debut in Cardinals’ Preseason

Rookie quarterback Carson Beck made a notable entrance in his first appearance with the Arizona Cardinals during the preseason Hall of Fame Game. Beck was chosen to start and played the first half, guiding the team on an impressive 96-yard touchdown drive. After the game, Beck expressed his excitement about returning to play.

Beck shared, “From the moment I stepped onto the field, I was eager to start. The night before, as I lay in bed, I struggled to sleep with anticipation of playing football again, never taking it for granted.”

Beck reflected on his journey, saying, “Following my injury, surgery, and UCL repair, I found gratitude in the game and every opportunity I have.”

After several seasons at Georgia, Beck transferred to Miami, where he led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship. In his preseason debut, the Cardinals’ third-round pick completed 14 out of 19 passes for 188 yards and orchestrated that 96-yard drive. Beck threw a touchdown, was sacked once, and earned a rating of 125.4 for his half of play.

At halftime, the score was tied 17-17 with the Carolina Panthers. The third quarter saw a 3-0 lead for the Cardinals, but the teams exchanged scores in the fourth. The Panthers’ undrafted rookie quarterback, Haynes King, clinched the victory with a reaching rush towards the goal line, ending the game at 33-30 in Carolina’s favor.

Despite the loss, Beck’s performance was promising enough to suggest he could become a starter this season. Head coach Mike LaFleur expressed confidence in Beck, stating, “I’m proud of how he played, and it’s a strong first stepping stone for him.”

While Beck’s future as a starter remains uncertain, the coach’s endorsement is significant. Beck currently ranks third on the depth chart, behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II.

The Cardinals’ next preseason game is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by a game against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 22. They will conclude their preseason by visiting the Packers on Aug. 28. The regular season opener is slated for Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Los Angeles Chargers.
