Passengers on a Delta flight bound for Orlando were evacuated using slides after the aircraft made an emergency landing on a taxiway at Atlanta’s Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport. The incident occurred shortly after takeoff on Saturday morning.
The aircraft, consisting of around 200 passengers and six crew members, reported smoke in the flight deck, prompting the need for an emergency landing. Delta flight 2204 had departed from Atlanta just before 7:30 a.m. but quickly returned for a landing.
A spokesperson from Delta stated that emergency evacuation slides were used for passenger and crew exit from the plane on the taxiway, followed by transportation to the terminal. The spokesperson emphasized that the flight crew adhered to safety procedures upon fume reports within the flight deck.
Passengers are being rebooked for travel to Orlando, and the affected aircraft is currently undergoing a maintenance review, according to Delta. The company reiterated its commitment to safety and apologized for the inconvenience caused to travelers.
