Advanced Cooling Gadgets Gain Popularity in East Asia

2 hours ago 0

Walking through Tokyo during summer, you will notice hand-held fans everywhere. Some are more advanced than others. Eimi Nakayama, a 20-year-old university student, was seen holding a high-tech fan. This fan features a small metal plate utilizing the same science as semiconductors, employing electrical currents to provide a cooling effect.

Nakayama described the feeling as akin to pressing a cold drink against the neck. The presence of the metal plate enhances the cool air flow.

These innovative products are becoming widespread in East Asia. The region is experiencing increasingly hot and prolonged summers. Recently, a severe heat wave affected cities, causing cancellations like baseball games in South Korea. In Japan, a new weather term, ‘kokushobi,’ meaning ‘cruel heat day,’ has emerged.

Demand for personal cooling products is growing. Previously dominated by basic hand-held fans, the market now offers more advanced items. These include air-conditioned clothing and cooling sprays, which promise rapid body temperature reduction.

The surge in sales of these cooling devices shows their growing importance. They are now considered essential by employers and governments rather than mere luxuries.
