Trump’s Aircraft Switch Aimed at Ensuring Safety Amid Security Threats

The Air Force One plane serving as a decoy for President Donald Trump received protection from U.S. fighter jets as it flew to the United Kingdom. This information was shared by a senior Trump administration official with Fox News. The security move intended to counter concerns that the press corps and staff might be vulnerable following Trump’s departure from Ankara, Turkey.

This security measure underscores the extraordinary precautions taken during the president’s plane switch. The plane typically used by Trump flew to the U.K. without him. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent joined the press corps on the decoy plane, with everyone aware the president was not on board.

A photo showed the press boarding the Air Force One aircraft in Ankara, with a catering truck positioned in front of the plane. Those traveling were instructed to keep window shades closed throughout the flight to prevent any view of the escorting fighter jets.

A pool report indicated minimal activity at the airport hinting at anything unusual. Press vans were stationed far back in the motorcade, and photographers couldn’t observe Trump boarding an aircraft.

Onboard, a Secret Service agent reinforced the instruction to keep shades down. When a shade was opened briefly, instructions were quickly given to close it. A White House official noted the Secret Service requested the closed shades.

Trump confirmed the switch was advised by his security team and the military. “I go by the Secret Service and the military,” Trump remarked in Geneva, Ohio, after attending the Freedom 250 Patriot Games. This decision reflected the desire for safety during travel.

Though the State Department declined to comment on the fighter jets, Trump suggested greater risk might have existed for the aircraft he traveled on after the plane swap. “I think it was at greater risk because that would be the plane I think that they would be more likely to go for,” Trump added.
