President Donald Trump participated in Florida’s Republican primary using mail-in voting, despite frequently condemning the practice as corrupt. Palm Beach County records reveal he requested a mail ballot in late July and returned it by August 13. This is the second occurrence of Trump using mail-in voting in Florida this year, as reported by Politico.
Earlier in March, Trump voted by mail during a Florida special election, while publicly criticizing mail-in voting. He stated his choice to vote by mail was due to his presidential status, although he was in Palm Beach when in-person early voting was available according to the Associated Press. The White House has previously dismissed criticism of Trump’s mail-in voting as insignificant.
Santiago Mayer, executive director of Voters of Tomorrow, expressed criticism in an email to Newsweek, stating: “What a joke. It’s almost like Donald Trump thinks we’re a bunch of idiots. The President whines about mail-in voting day after day, only to turn around and vote by mail himself. If he can lie so comfortably about the integrity of mail-in voting, just imagine what else he’s lying to all of us about. He has repeatedly proven himself to be full of it. Donald Trump is a hypocrite at the highest level and a grave threat to this democracy. But what else is new? It’s time to elect a Congress that will hold this corrupt administration accountable.” Newsweek has reached out to the White House for comment.
What To Know
In July, Trump labeled mail-in voting as “inherently corrupt” and supported restrictions limiting mail ballots to specific situations like illness, disability, military service, or travel. Research from the Brookings Institution in 2025 showed no widespread fraud with mail voting, estimating four fraud cases per 10 million mail ballots. Around 30 percent of ballots in the 2024 election were cast by mail, based on federal statistics.

Save America Act
Trump is pressuring Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections. Strategies have included coupling the bill with defense spending, urging Senate Republicans to circumvent the filibuster, and using Truth Social to label the act as crucial legislation. Supporters claim the act would enhance election integrity. Critics argue it may hinder eligible voters without effectively addressing non-citizen voting.
