Rep. Nick Begich, a Republican from Alaska, is seeking re-election for a second term as the state’s only House representative. The election features 14 other candidates, with the most notable being Bill Hill, an independent commercial fisherman and former school superintendent.
Last month, Matt Schultz, a pastor from Anchorage and the leading Democrat in the race, decided to suspend his campaign. He has thrown his support behind Bill Hill, potentially changing the dynamics of the race.
Alaska’s primary election system is unique, with all candidates listed on the ballot regardless of their party affiliation. The top four candidates from this primary will move forward to compete in the general election.
