ICE Agents Introduce Electric Shock Gloves to Enforcement Arsenal

60 minutes ago 0

ICE agents will soon add a new tool to their enforcement resources: gloves capable of delivering painful electric shocks. This addition joins their existing arsenal of firearms, stun guns, and pepper spray. The Department of Homeland Security supports this new tool, describing it as an essential nonlethal option.

However, concerns have been raised by advocates who note instances where ICE officers have misused existing enforcement tools. Such misuse has previously resulted in deadly consequences. The introduction of these shock gloves has raised questions about potential misuse and the need for strict guidelines regarding their application.

The manufacturer of these devices warns against using the gloves on sensitive groups. These groups include small children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and those classified as severely handicapped. This caution has further amplified concerns about the potential risks associated with this new enforcement tool.

This development comes after reports of a person wearing the shock glove at the Oklahoma County Detention Center in Oklahoma City in 2024. The use of such devices in detention settings has drawn attention and scrutiny, leading to discussions about the ethical and humane treatment of individuals in custody.
