AFC South Tight End Rankings: Colts Lead the Pack

The NFL preseason has kicked off, bringing excitement to football fans as teams gear up for their upcoming exhibition games. As we count down to the NFL regular season starting on September 9, let’s explore the tight end configurations of the AFC South teams.

1. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts’ tight end group, highlighted by the promising rookie Tyler Warren, is showing strong potential. Warren, who was the 14th overall pick in the 2025 draft, made a significant impact in his debut season. He recorded 76 receptions, 817 yards, and four touchdowns, establishing himself as a leading young tight end in the league. Analysts compare his potential impact to that of former greats at the position. Supporting Warren are Will Mallory, Mo Alie-Cox, and Drew Ogletree, all of whom provide valuable depth and versatility.

2. Houston Texans

Dalton Schultz remains a consistent performer for the Texans since 2020. He met or exceeded 53 catches and 530 yards each season, hitting his career-high last year with 82 catches and 777 yards. Expectations remain high for Schultz to deliver similar results this year. Cade Stover serves effectively as a backup, contributing around 15 catches and 120 yards. With the departure of Chig Okonkwo, the Titans look to Gunnar Helm as the leading tight end. 4. Jacksonville Jaguars

Brenton Strange leads the Jaguars’ tight end unit, replacing former star Evan Engram. Strange’s 2025 season included 46 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns. While not as impactful as Engram, the Jaguars leverage their strong wide receiver lineup, which reduces the emphasis on tight end production. The team added Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in the 2026 draft, aiming to utilize both in versatile formations.
