4 hours ago 0

In a rare burst of speed for bureaucratic D.C., the city is set to host an IndyCar race known as the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will attend Sunday’s event, which features race cars zipping through downtown streets, including Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House.

President Trump expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Their beautiful cars are going to make freedom roar.” This race marks one of the celebrations for America’s 250th birthday. Trump’s administration has organized various festivities, including a UFC fight at the White House, memorable military aircraft flyovers, and a large July Fourth fireworks display on the National Mall.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix involves open-wheel race cars flashing by national monuments at speeds nearing 200 mph. The event comes amid Trump’s efforts to resolve a conflict with Iran that began six months ago. Continuous warfare has fueled gas price hikes, raising concerns among Republicans about voter perceptions of the President.

Penske Corporation’s Bud Denker confirmed that Roger Penske will manage major expenses, while the District of Columbia will assist with essential roadworks, such as repaving and welding over 200 manhole covers to prevent accidents during the race.

The event signifies Trump’s imprint on D.C., with banners showcasing his image and recent renovations, like the construction of an opulent White House ballroom and enhancements to the Oval Office.
