John “Jed” York, the principal owner and CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, faced arrest in Ohio over the weekend. On Monday, York entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor charges involving disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
The arrest took place on Sunday in East Palestine, a town near the Pennsylvania border. Initially, York was charged with engaging in prostitution, according to court records obtained by The Associated Press. Prosecutors, however, adjusted the charge to disorderly conduct.
York, who is an alumnus of Cardinal Mooney, posted a $5,000 bond as confirmed by authorities. Although specific case details remain limited, a report by the East Palestine Police, accessed by Nexstar’s WKBN, mentions that York’s arrest occurred with assistance from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
Court documents reveal that York received a sentence of two days in Columbiana County Jail, served concurrently, with credit given for one day already served. Additionally, he faced fines amounting to $1,150. Authorities also seized $160, which will be forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
York has filed a request for expungement to have this incident removed from his records. Since 2008, York has held the position of team president for the 49ers. As of Monday morning, the team had not issued any comments regarding his arrest.
In response to York’s situation, the NFL stated, “We are aware of the matter, which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” in a statement to Nexstar’s WKBN. In addition, WKBN sought comments from both the team and York’s attorney.
