Arch Manning’s Journey with Texas Longhorns and Future NFL Prospects

35 minutes ago 0

Arch Manning is determined to help the No. 1 Texas Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff and potentially the national championship this season. Many, however, are interested in his future at the next stage of football. Manning, nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, has faced high expectations since high school as a top prospect. Despite moments of brilliance from the Longhorns’ quarterback, ESPN’s quarterback rankings for the 2027 NFL Draft place him at No. 5.

An AFC assistant general manager indicated to ESPN that Manning’s reputation has fostered ‘blind faith’ among many. They questioned the high expectations for Manning’s potential, asking if his current state is truly reflective of his abilities as a prospect.

“What’s giving so many people this blind faith that there’s just this monstrous ceiling with him?” the executive questioned.

In the 2026 college season, Manning aimed to prove himself following a 2025 campaign deemed underwhelming by some. He accumulated 3,163 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions over 13 games. This season, he’s thrown for 862 yards, with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, leading his 4-0 Longhorns to a notable 21-point comeback against Ohio State earlier in the season.

The expectations for Manning entering college were immense, influenced by the notable quarterbacks sharing his last name. Consistency has been a challenge; however, ample football remains ahead for him.

With NFL teams deep into their scouting for the next draft in April, every aspect of Manning’s game is intensely scrutinized. One AFC scout noted that while he might not be the class’s best, his performance flashes intrigue many and suggest future potential.

“He’s always graded on a different scale because of the name,” the scout said. “I don’t think he’s the best in the class, but his flashes in games are fascinating and a preview of what could happen down the road.”

Prospects commonly alter their draft stock throughout a season. Even the NFL Scouting Combine can shift perceptions among teams. Manning is part of a remarkable draft class including quarterbacks like Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker, Miami’s Darian Mensah, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, all ranked higher by ESPN.

Upcoming weeks offer Manning a chance to reshape opinions as Texas faces five ranked opponents consecutively after the ‘Red River Rivalry’ with Oklahoma. Their schedule includes clashes against No. 16 Florida, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 14 Missouri, and No. 10 LSU.
