A newly escaped bison caused quite a scene in Loudoun County, Virginia, leading to an extensive operation by animal services officers to return the massive beast home.
On Monday morning, a 1,500-pound male bison broke through a damaged fence on a local farm. This escape led him into the unfamiliar environment of western Loudoun County. This suburban area, about 50 miles from Washington, D.C., is typically more noted for its numerous data centers than for wildlife sightings like roaming bison.
Three dedicated animal services officers spent six arduous hours trying to safely guide the bison back to its property. Their efforts demonstrate the unique challenges faced when wild or domesticated animals wander into suburban regions.
