On August 24, Israeli military operations in Gaza resulted in the death of at least four individuals, including two children, following warnings for evacuation. This follows a recent appeal from a U.S. delegation urging Israel to scale back attacks.
Gaza Experiences Deadly Strikes
A strike targeted a building within the Bureij refugee camp. A 4-year-old child was among the victims as noted by Awda Hospital, which also reported injuries to the child’s mother and sister. Israel did not provide immediate comments.
Residents faced attacks across three locations in Gaza after receiving alerts. Some residents were seen fleeing quickly, while others navigated through debris using wheelchairs or walking aids. Israeli military stated their operations targeted alleged Hamas weapon storage sites within mosques, although evidence was not provided.
Casualties and Damage in Khan Younis
In Khan Younis, an Israeli strike led to the death of a man and injuries to five others, according to Nasser Hospital. Additionally, Israeli tank fire was responsible for killing a 10-year-old girl east of Khan Younis. The military did not confirm the incident.
Continuous Strikes Despite Peace Efforts
Despite discussions between U.S. envoy Jared Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to promote a ceasefire, Israel has conducted multiple strikes since the meeting. The objective, according to Israel, is to target militants and counter violations of the ceasefire.
Since October, Israeli airstrikes have caused at least 1,288 Palestinian casualties as reported by Gaza’s health ministry. The records are generally considered credible by U.N. agencies. Meanwhile, Israel reports injuries and deaths among its soldiers due to militant attacks.
Allegations and Concerns
Israeli officials express concern over kites sent from Gaza. These kites, discovered in a kibbutz without harmful materials, have caused alarm, prompting threats from Israel to intensify strikes.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem dismissed the claims about kites, accusing Israel of using them as a pretext for further aggression.
In the aftermath of the violent attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant loss of life and hostages, Israeli retaliatory measures have led to extensive casualties in Gaza, as recorded by Gaza’s health ministry.
