Cuban National Accused of Burglary in South Florida

A Cuban national, identified as Melany Pavon-Perdomo, is accused of illegally residing in the United States while involved in a burglary. The incident involves two people charged with burglarizing a luxurious townhome in South Florida. This home belonged to Henry Parra and Adam Hlavaty, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Kenya.

According to Miami-Dade court records, arrests were made on August 25. Geybert Alexander Garcia, age 40, is reportedly a U.S. citizen. Meanwhile, Pavon-Perdomo was taken into custody by Coral Gables police on charges of grand theft and burglary. Following her arrest, ICE filed a detainer.

Pavon-Perdomo entered the U.S. at an unidentified location and time. She failed to adjust her immigration status and remains in the country unlawfully.

Charges against the pair include theft of luxury vehicles, personal documents, jewelry, and artwork. Notably, a sculpture valued over $500,000 was stolen from the home of Henry Parra and Adam Hlavaty. The property is appraised at about $3 million.

The couple were among seven individuals killed when a safari helicopter crashed in northern Kenya on August 19. The U.S. State Department confirmed five of those deceased were U.S. citizens. Others included Miami restaurateur Roger Duarte and several notable personalities.

“They were a loving couple who cherished their time together, especially traveling, making memories and enjoying life with their family and friends,” said friends in a statement acquired by WSVN. “They were hardworking, generous and deeply committed to serving and giving back to their community.”

The Coral Gables home belonged to Parra, a former Navy aviation technician, and Hlavaty, a real estate executive. The couple left for travel on August 12, entrusting their home in the care of a housekeeper.

Official documents indicate the property remained intact after their demise. However, between August 20 and 22, a burglary occurred. Items stolen include luxury vehicles, documents, electronics, and art.

Authorities traced a stolen MacBook using Apple’s Find My service to a residence in northwest Miami-Dade. Evidence from a spare key and the Range Rover’s app indicated similar findings.

Officers discovered both stolen vehicles parked near the location and obtained a search warrant. Garcia was found hiding in a closet, while Pavon-Perdomo was located in a bedroom. Documents and valuable artworks were recovered, as were materials suggesting the production or alteration of IDs.

Garcia faces charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, grand vehicle theft, and first-degree grand theft. Pavon-Perdomo is charged similarly, and their court date is set for September 28.

An ICE official emphasized enforcement actions under the Trump administration. Criminal illegal aliens will face consequences, arrest, and potential deportation.
