U.S. State Department Modifies Israel Travel Advisory

The U.S. State Department recently updated its travel advisory for Israel. Family members of U.S. government employees now have the green light to travel there.

The Level 3 advisory, suggesting Americans reconsider travel due to terrorism and unrest, was renewed on August 26. The update included a note that family members could accompany U.S. government employees in Israel.

Despite this change, heightened risk persists in certain regions of the country due to ongoing regional instability. U.S. government employees stationed in Israel have travel restrictions in place. They are advised to avoid areas north of Route 85 to Route 90 (south) to Route 87. Additionally, they should not venture within seven miles of the Gaza Strip or 1.5 miles of the Israel-Egypt border, with the exception of the Taba border crossing.

Any official travel of U.S. government personnel within these areas requires approval from the U.S. embassy’s security office, the advisory emphasized.
