Bear Breaks into Colorado Home, Shocking Family

1 hour ago 0

A Colorado family had an unexpected guest when a bear broke into their kitchen one July morning, helping itself to breakfast. Security cameras in their Colorado Springs home captured the animal’s entry on July 21.

Nerissa England, the homeowner, shared her experience with Storyful. “I was getting ready in the morning and heard a bang,” England recounted. At first, she thought a picture had simply fallen down.

Her curious daughter, Zara Lee, went to investigate, followed by England’s husband who was heading to get coffee. They discovered the bear munching on trash just outside the kitchen door.

The bear had found its way into the home via a back door that had been left open for ventilation during hot weather. It went on to devour Flintstones vitamins and drag out a trash can before rummaging near the kitchen entrance. Zara Lee and her father managed to scare it away by creating noise.

Nerissa England stated, “We will be keeping the door shut for a while until the local bears get the food they need and go into hibernation.” Bears have been entering homes across the United States in unprecedented numbers. Their natural food sources have dwindled due to a dry winter, leading them to seek human alternatives.

As Reuters reported, this has resulted in record bear fatalities. Many bears have been euthanized, hit by cars, shot, or even electrocuted during interactions with people.
