2 hours ago 0

Ricky Skaggs shared how he and Dolly Parton prayed at a small church in her backyard before recording her successful comeback album. During an interview, the 72-year-old country star recalled moments from working on Parton’s album ‘White Limozeen’ in 1989. Skaggs reminisced about visiting Parton at her home, where they had a deeply personal moment of faith.

Shared Faith in Her Backyard Church

Skaggs recounted Parton showing him a small church she attended as a child in East Tennessee. This church was dismantled, moved, and rebuilt in her backyard. Inside, they prayed by a little piano and altar, asking for blessings on the album and musicians involved. The day left a lasting impression on Skaggs, highlighting Parton’s character.

Collaborating on ‘White Limozeen’

The collaboration began when Parton invited Skaggs to produce the album after a TV appearance. Skaggs expressed surprise and excitement, considering Parton’s request a significant moment in his career. ‘White Limozeen’ marked a return to traditional country music, reaching No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and producing two No. 1 hits.

Parton’s Compassionate Legacy

Despite some criticism for her glamorous image, Skaggs admired Parton’s compassionate nature. He praised her kindness and generosity, noting her efforts to help the homeless and disadvantaged. Parton’s philanthropy is well-documented, including initiatives like the Imagination Library and support for wildfire relief and medical research.

Skaggs said the experience with Parton influenced his band’s pre-show rituals of praying. He described her as having a pure, golden heart, never judging others. He hoped her dedication to charity and her music legacy would be remembered fondly.
