Jacob Misiorowski’s Stellar Season and Strategic Challenges Ahead for Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has positioned himself as the leading contender for the National League Cy Young Award in 2026. Known as “The Miz,” Misiorowski has exceeded expectations with his performance this year. While his high velocity has always impressed, he has further refined his command and control. His walks per nine innings dropped from over four in 2025 to 2.26 in 2026. This improvement reflects in his other statistics.

Misiorowski allowed only 84 hits over 155 innings, resulting in a remarkable 0.79 WHIP. He also recorded 227 strikeouts and held opponents to a .154 batting average. For a stretch, he went 25 starts without allowing more than three earned runs.

However, this streak ended during a matchup against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Misiorowski managed only four innings, allowing five runs on five hits, with four walks and five strikeouts. Though not disastrous, the performance was below his set standard. His recent four starts showed a drop in his exceptional numbers.

As the postseason approaches, concerns about his workload arise. In 2025, he pitched 129.1 innings combined between the minors and the majors. This season, he is projected to reach at least 180 innings, given more games remaining. With the Brewers targeting a strong postseason run, a former Cy Young winner, Jake Peavy, suggests giving Misiorowski rest by skipping some starts.

“In my career, trying to recover from over usage was tough,” Peavy noted. “Skipping starts could keep him fresh, essential for winning the World Series. Misiorowski is crucial for their success.”

The Brewers, with a first-round bye and home-field advantage, have high hopes for the playoffs. They rely on a consistent offense driven by players like Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn, and Jake Bauers. The pitching staff, featuring Kyle Harrison and Logan Henderson, is formidable in short series. Meanwhile, their bullpen, including Trevor Megill and Aaron Ashby, effectively manages games.
