Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the HHS Secretary, has introduced a new cooking show called ‘The Real Food Show’ in collaboration with celebrity chef Andrew Gruel. Their aim is to promote healthy eating habits. This initiative is part of Kennedy’s ongoing effort to tackle chronic health issues in the US through nutritional education.
Recently, Alex Rodriguez, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star, shared insights into his current lifestyle and dietary habits. Known as A-Rod, Rodriguez hasn’t played professionally in ten years and now consumes less than during his athletic career. He disclosed this in an Men’s Health video tour of his kitchen in Los Angeles, California.
Rodriguez explained that during his MLB career, which spanned 25 years, he had a diet of frequent meals. These included steak, potatoes, rice, and beans. He highlighted the high energy demands of playing 162 games per season as a reason for this diet.
At 51, A-Rod has transitioned to a different lifestyle as a businessman and broadcaster. His diet now includes a range of foods, with healthy choices readily available alongside occasional indulgent snacks.
A-Rod’s refrigerator staples are water, eggs, spring lettuce mix, and fruits such as bananas, apples, and oranges. He usually eats three to four meals daily and supplements with protein shakes. Despite having ‘pop sodas’ for visitors, he has stopped consuming soft drinks for five years.
“Today I probably under-eat, which is not good. I need to eat more, especially some healthy proteins, more fruit, more water, more fuel.” – Alex Rodriguez
He always stocks fresh, organic blueberries, strawberries, greens, and hummus for a late-night snack. While he enjoys ‘chips’ like barbecue chips and Cheetos, his kitchen has no liver, as per his preference.
For breakfast, A-Rod prefers eggs, oatmeal, bacon, orange juice, and water. His lunch typically includes a salad with balsamic vinaigrette and chicken or fish. Dinner often features steak or salmon, usually served with sweet potato fries. He jokes about his lack of cooking skills, implying potential mishaps in the kitchen.
A-Rod admits he’s never followed a strict diet as he cherishes food enjoyment. Reflecting on his MLB days, he noted he overeaten for energy. Now, he’s mindful of under-eating and stresses the importance of consuming more proteins and fruits.
He confessed his favorite pregame meal was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with barbecue chips. For victory celebrations, he opted for a steak or sushi. His Dominican heritage influences his comfort food choices like rice and beans, plátanos maduros, and tostones.
Although partial to Burger King’s burgers, Rodriguez prefers McDonald’s French fries. His typical burger meal includes a double Whopper with cheese. A-Rod is a coffee enthusiast, drinking seven to eight cups daily. Pre-gym, he consumes a Celsius energy drink.
Protein shakes mixed with protein powder, fruit, and some peanut butter are part of his routine. His daily vitamins include vitamin C, a multivitamin, and magnesium for better sleep.
When at a ballpark, A-Rod opts for a Dodger Dog or a large pretzel. His unique food creation, the ‘A-Rod special,’ combines a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with deli turkey.
