An Indiana family farm has received criticism for creating a corn maze in tribute to Charlie Kirk. Despite the backlash, the farm stands firm in its decision.
Jeremy Goebel, manager at Global Farms, stated their intention was not to divide opinions. Instead, they sought to honor Kirk’s advocacy for open debate and free speech.
“Absolutely, we would absolutely do it again,” said Goebel. He emphasized that the negative reaction seemed directed more towards Kirk’s ideology than the farm itself.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a speaking event in Utah. The farm faced immediate pushback after unveiling the maze. Some past customers left one-star reviews, citing disagreement with the tribute.
Goebel found the backlash puzzling. I just think it’s very hard to wrap my mind around the fact that there’s been so much hate over this.
He noted they only aimed to remember someone who advocated for free speech.
Not all feedback was negative. Goebel reported positive messages of support from global supporters, including Cape Town and Australia.
Goebel expressed a belief in the importance of open dialogue. No one side has all the answers, and I think a lot of our best ideas and progress come from people with different perspectives pushing each other to think differently.
