Christine Taylor achieved her dream when she landed the role of Marcia Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie.” The opportunity, however, came with conditions that reflected the norms of Hollywood at the time.

During an interview on the “Office Ladies” podcast, Taylor shared that she was required to lose 10 pounds to secure the role. Despite feeling “embarrassed” about the request, she complied, acknowledging that such demands were typical in Hollywood during that period.

Taylor’s journey to becoming Marcia Brady began with her participation in “The Real Live Brady Bunch,” a live show where she performed the iconic role. As a longtime fan of Marcia Brady, Taylor had watched every episode multiple times.

Her dedication paid off with a direct call from Sherwood Schwartz, creator of “The Brady Bunch,” inviting her to meet. Taylor described this moment as a once-in-a-lifetime Hollywood experience, which she regretted not recording.

Taylor was confident she was the perfect fit for Marcia Brady, and her confidence carried her through the casting process seamlessly. After initial meetings, she didn’t have to audition alone again but instead read with other actors who would play her siblings.

The request to lose weight was a reflection of industry practices in the 90s. Taylor emphasized the era’s differences, noting she wasn’t considered heavy at the time. Losing weight was seen as part of securing the role.

Taylor commented that viewers might notice her weight fluctuates throughout the movie. This is due to reshoots where she would appear a bit heavier or thinner in different scenes.

Despite the weight-related challenge, Taylor expressed enjoyment during her time filming. She even treated herself to non-fat frozen yogurt, a popular choice at the time, as a personal reward once scenes were wrapped.
