Pink Addresses Backlash Over Repost on Pro-Palestinian Remarks

Singer Pink publicly responded to criticism surrounding her repost concerning Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian remarks at Ed Sheeran’s MetLife Stadium events. She issued a detailed statement clarifying her stance on Israel, Gaza, and why she believes her earlier posts were misunderstood.

Her initial repost was from StopAntisemitism, which accused Macklemore of promoting ‘anti-Israel propaganda’ and asserted that Jewish fans deserved apologies and refunds. This post, along with what Pink refers to as ‘snarky memes,’ sparked accusations of prejudice and calls for boycotts across social media platforms.

Pink’s Clarification on the Controversy

After a week of online dispute, a petition from the Israeli-American Council to remove Macklemore from Sheeran’s U.S. tour, and ongoing discussions about artists’ roles concerning the conflict in Gaza after nearly three years since October 7, Pink offered her clarification.

Pink acknowledged remaining ‘quiet in her own words’ for a week. She noted her repost ‘included words she didn’t write and wouldn’t have chosen them all.’ She admitted using memes in response to the backlash, saying, ‘that’s on me…a repost isn’t a statement, and a meme doesn’t provide a backbone.’

Pink shared, ‘I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it,’ explaining that her beliefs had been projected by others without checking her previous remarks. She reiterated her stance from October 2023: ‘Hamas is a terrorist organization. Palestinians deserve a future respecting their humanity and aspirations. Protecting innocent life comes first, everywhere, and nobody should celebrate the death of any child.’

She emphasized her decade of service as a UNICEF ambassador, mourning losses on both sides of the conflict. Pink expressed she would not ‘debate a complex war in an Instagram caption’ nor ‘repeat slogans to regain a follower.’
