Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany, along with a pilot, managed to escape with minor injuries after their small plane lost power. The incident led to an emergency landing in a lake on Saturday night.

According to Tiffany, the four-seat Bonanza aircraft was approaching the Wausau Downtown Airport when it experienced a power failure. This occurred after he attended the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner. “The pilot made an emergency water landing in Lake Wausau,” Tiffany shared on social media.

The aircraft quickly began sinking after hitting the water. Tiffany and the pilot called emergency services promptly but had to exit and swim to a shallow area as the plane submerged. They waited there until rescuers arrived by boat.

Both Tiffany and the pilot were transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where they received medical attention. The congressman reported that they sustained only minor injuries.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all the first responders who came to our aid so swiftly,” Tiffany said. “They safely got us off the water and transported us to the hospital, where we received excellent care.”

Tiffany further remarked on the support received from his wife, Chris, who was with him at the hospital after the dramatic landing. He reflected on the experience, stating, “God was watching over us tonight, and I am incredibly grateful to be here in the hospital with my wife, Chris, by my side. An experience like this reminds you just how precious life is.”

Social media platforms saw an outpouring of relief and prayers once Tiffany shared the details of the incident. Comments expressed gratitude for their safety and well-being.

Tiffany, who currently serves Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, is a Republican candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state. The cause of the plane’s power loss is currently under investigation.
