Ms. Rachel Criticizes Silence on Palestinian Children’s Deaths

Children’s YouTube sensation Rachel Griffin Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, accused public figures of racism for their silence on Palestinian children killed in Gaza. She suggested their lack of advocacy reflected a racial bias in valuing children’s lives.

Accurso targeted those who had not spoken publicly about the issue, hinting at racial disparity. On Instagram, she stated, “They probably would say something if these kids were White and from a different place. Please stop being racist and risk something.”

The controversy follows Accurso’s recent encounter with podcaster Avi Lichtschein, who challenged her description of Israel’s conflict with Hamas as “genocide.” Lichtschein emphasized the responsibility Accurso carries due to her large audience to consider the implications of her statements.

Accurso categorized public figures into two groups: those openly discussing the plight of Palestinian children and those who she claimed remain silent, thereby valuing these children’s lives less.

Accurso stated, “I see that you have a hierarchy of children’s lives.” She contrasted the actions of prominent individuals who are vocal about Gaza with those she believes disregard Palestinian children’s worth.

The United Nations’ Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported that over 20,000 Palestinian children had died and many more were injured from October 2023 to March 2023. It accused Israeli forces of targeting children, framing this as part of genocide. Israel rejected these findings, criticizing the commission’s methods and conclusions.

Accurso’s recent statements have intensified scrutiny on her activism related to Israel. In January, she was under fire after mistakenly liking an antisemitic comment, which she later clarified, rejecting any form of hate or antisemitism.

Elizabeth Barcohana of the California Republican Party criticized Accurso, alleging her outrage was insincere and labeling her as a “radical activist.” Barcohana accused Accurso of manipulating her audience with misleading information sourced from the “Gaza Ministry of Health.”

Barcohana emphasized the importance of discerning the credibility of sources and ensuring parents understand the background of influencers like Ms. Rachel. Concerns were expressed over the potential impact on young, impressionable audiences.
