Georgia Senate Race: Jon Ossoff Leads in Latest Polls

23 minutes ago 0

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff is leading Republican Representative Mike Collins by over six points, according to a recent survey conducted by Trafalgar Group. Released shortly before the November 3 midterm elections, this poll adds to a series of surveys showing Ossoff’s advantage in Georgia, a key battleground state in the upcoming elections.

Republicans are keen on the competitive nature of this race, especially referencing President Donald Trump’s narrow victory in Georgia against former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. However, Democrats point to Trump’s declining national approval ratings amid economic concerns as potential leverage in the tightly contested state.

Historically, Georgia voted for Trump in 2024, but it supported former President Joe Biden in the 2020 elections and re-elected Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock in 2022. The growth around Atlanta, a region shifting towards Democratic preferences, has transformed Georgia into a battleground. Democrats hope these trends will favor Ossoff in the current election cycle.

Georgia Senate Poll Gives Jon Ossoff a Lead

Ossoff emerged with 49.4 percent support from the respondents, whereas Mike Collins managed 42.8 percent, according to the surveyed data. Libertarian candidate Allen Buckley drew 1.3 percent, with 6.5 percent of respondents undecided. Conducted between September 10-12, the survey included 1,091 respondents with a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.

The Trafalgar Group, founded by Robert Cahaly, is known for a Republican slant. It has been noted for overestimating Republican support in some races, notably in 2022, but accurately predicted Trump’s 2016 victory despite other forecasts favoring Hillary Clinton.

An Ossoff campaign representative emphasized Georgia’s status as a battleground and noted the substantial Republican expenditure against Ossoff. Still, confidence remains in building momentum to secure votes statewide.

What Other Polls Show

Various recent polls reflect Ossoff’s edge over Collins. The latest InsiderAdvantage poll placed Ossoff 7 points ahead, with 50 percent support against Collins’ 43 percent. This poll sampled 800 likely voters between August 16 to 17, carrying a margin of error of 3.46 percentage points.

In another survey by AARP, Ossoff leads Collins by 9 points, claiming 52 percent to Collins’ 43 percent. Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research conducted this poll from July 13-16 among 1,060 likely voters, boasting a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

The Wick survey showed a narrower lead for Ossoff, at 4 points, with Ossoff receiving 46.7 percent compared to Collins’ 42.9 percent. Conducted between June 27-30, this survey had 1,175 likely voters with a 2.9 percentage points margin of error.

An earlier Fox News poll depicted a substantial lead for Ossoff, showing 56 percent support against 43 percent for Collins. This poll surveyed 1,002 registered voters between June 23-27, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

What Prediction Markets Show

Prediction markets favor Ossoff considerably, with a 94 percent victory chance on Kalshi as of recent. His probability of winning has seen gradual increases throughout the election cycle. From an 85 percent chance in July, it reached 91 percent by August 1 and started the year at 75 percent.

These markets work by aggregating wagers into probability estimates; however, they offer a snapshot of trader sentiment rather than concrete future predictions.

A New Battleground

Georgia, once considered solidly Republican in the 2000s and 2010s, has transitioned towards competitive status. This change results from rapid growth and demographic shifts in Atlanta and surrounding suburbs. Notably, these areas saw increased Democratic leanings from 2020 to 2024, contrasting with rightward shifts nationwide.

Democrats aim to speed these trends in 2026, establishing further political progress in Georgia.

Jon Ossoff Calls for AI Action in Speech

“Tech titans dig bunkers while warning us the new intelligence they’re creating risks human extinction. Congress debates youth sports, and the president builds a ballroom. An ancient establishment, barely capable of email, sleepwalks into a technological revolution, while the president dismantles precautions and calls us fools for worrying,” said Ossoff.

In a speech gaining traction online, Ossoff urged Congress for an effective response to challenges posed by artificial intelligence. He criticized Republicans for inactivity, citing the remarks of former AI researcher Jacob Coxon, who shared his concerns about AI’s potential risks.

Georgia Is Must-Win State

Currently, Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate majority. Democrats aim to flip four seats for control, facing a challenging map, as Vice President JD Vance might act as a tiebreaker in an equal Senate.

Georgia stands as one of two Democratic-held seats in states that Trump won in 2024, making it crucial for November’s election. Democrats look at states like North Carolina and Maine for their next major opportunities. Meanwhile, conservative states such as Alaska, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas are considered viable albeit challenging chances for Senate control.

Polls indicate potentially close races in these states.
