Patrick Mahomes Shines in Return After Knee Injury

Patrick Mahomes effectively silenced his critics during “Monday Night Football” by leading the Kansas City Chiefs on a successful 10-play, 46-yard opening drive against the Denver Broncos. This drive concluded with Mahomes making a swift 15-yard touchdown run that gave the Chiefs an early lead.

Mahomes had suffered a torn ACL in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14. Despite the severity of the injury, he made an extraordinary recovery. He returned in time for Week 1 after undergoing surgery to repair both his ACL and LCL. According to Jay Glazer from Fox Sports, Mahomes expedited his recovery by undergoing surgery immediately, before any knee swelling could occur. Mahomes claimed he would have been ready to play around the mandatory minicamp period.

Glazer noted that this allowed Mahomes to begin his rehabilitation almost immediately after the surgery. Mahomes tackled his rehab with intensity and recounted that he felt fully recovered by the first week of June.

On Monday night, Mahomes demonstrated that his knee was no longer a concern for the Chiefs. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, threw two touchdowns, and had one interception. Additionally, he contributed 23 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs celebrated a decisive 31-10 victory over the Broncos.

The Chiefs’ offense didn’t rely solely on Mahomes. Running back Kenneth Walker III, who joined the team through free agency, made a significant impact with 173 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries.
