Representative Mace Calls for Public Execution in Lindsay Clancy Case

Representative Nancy Mace has advocated for a public execution of Lindsay Clancy, following a Massachusetts jury’s inability to determine her criminal responsibility in the deaths of her three children. Speaking to TMZ, the South Carolina Republican stated, “Her children are dead, she should be dead too.” Mace emphasized that Clancy should receive the death penalty and that it should be conducted publicly.

Mace’s suggestion conflicts with Massachusetts law. The state hasn’t executed anyone since 1947. In 1984, Massachusetts’ highest court nullified the state’s death penalty statute. If Clancy were convicted of first-degree murder, the possible sentence would be life imprisonment without parole.

The call for execution follows a mistrial announcement earlier this month. Jurors failed to reach a unanimous decision regarding Clancy’s case. Clancy, age 36, admitted to killing her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. She entered a not guilty plea with her defense arguing she experienced severe postpartum psychosis leading to the killings and her attempted suicide. A retrial is possible, but prosecutors have not confirmed their plans.

Representative Mace is not alone in demanding capital punishment for Clancy. Georgia Republican Representative Clay Fuller previously stated that such brutal acts against children warrant the death penalty. Fuller also advocated for federal limitations on the insanity defense.
