LongHorn Steakhouse Under Scrutiny for Kitchen Conditions

7 days ago 0

LongHorn Steakhouse is facing criticism after videos showing roaches and food waste in the kitchen went viral on social media. The footage was allegedly captured at the Camp Creek Parkway location in East Point, Georgia. An employee, Sean Headley, recorded the videos to document the unsafe conditions he had repeatedly reported to management and corporate offices, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.

Headley, who started working at the restaurant in April, told FOX 5 Atlanta that he felt compelled to record the videos due to the hazardous work environment. “It was the work environment and the conditions we were working in,” Headley said. “There were a lot of inhumane conditions.” The videos show cockroaches on the kitchen floor and food waste scattered around, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

After feeling his concerns went unanswered, Headley shared the videos on social media. LongHorn Steakhouse responded with a statement to FOX 5 Atlanta, acknowledging the unacceptable conditions and mentioning that they have been addressed. “We continue to take the necessary steps to ensure a safe experience for our guests and team members and recently placed a new leader in the restaurant to ensure our strict standards are maintained.”

Headley expressed hope that the incident will lead to broader changes, including more frequent health inspections at restaurants owned by Darden Restaurants and improvements in workplace conditions, such as fixing broken air conditioners. Fulton County health officials plan to revisit the restaurant, as reported by WSB-TV in Atlanta.

The East Point restaurant received a health inspection score of 90, or an “A,” on August 25, as per the Georgia Department of Public Health. Previous inspection scores ranged from 88 to 91 over the past two years.

Online discussions have criticized the kitchen conditions shown in the videos. Users on platforms like Reddit have expressed their disapproval, with one stating, “That is beyond unacceptable.” Another commenter urged restaurant workers to report sanitation issues rather than ignore them. “We are responsible for not poisoning people, and some of you need to take that job more seriously,” a user wrote.

Others questioned how the restaurant passed previous health inspections. The incident has prompted further discussions about restaurant sanitation and health inspection standards.
