Oregon Ducks Overcome Setback with Big Victory but Face Challenges Ahead

After a severe setback against Oklahoma State, the Oregon Ducks returned with a commanding 84-0 win over Portland State. Quarterback Dante Moore showcased his skills by completing 19 out of 23 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Dylan Raiola followed with an impressive performance, completing all 11 of his passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns. The Ducks accumulated a total of 453 yards on offense.

However, not all news from Eugene is positive. Head coach Dan Lanning announced on Monday night that junior wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan has suffered a broken foot, sidelining him indefinitely. McClellan reportedly injured himself during pregame warmups prior to the Portland State match. Spotted in street clothes with a walking boot on his right foot, his absence will be deeply felt by the team.

McClellan, a former four-star recruit from St. Louis, Missouri, joined the Ducks in December 2023 after attracting interest from over 40 top college football programs. His freshman year in 2024 saw limited action, yet he became a significant asset last season. He ranked third on the team in both receiving yards, tallying 557 yards, and receptions, with 38 catches, trailing only receiver Malik Benson and tight end Kenyon Sadiq who are now in the NFL.

Though expected to shine and become one of Moore’s primary targets, McClellan’s junior season seems over. This year, in three games, McClellan achieved seven catches for 170 yards and a touchdown, maintaining an impressive average of 24.3 yards per catch.

The timing of McClellan’s injury poses a challenge for the Ducks. Lanning’s team faces a crucial matchup against Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The upcoming Big Ten game between these ranked teams will be decisive as both vie for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Moore will need to guide Oregon to victory without one of his most reliable receivers.
