President Donald Trump recently expressed his support for Irish reunification, stating he would “love to see” it happen. This comment comes amid growing calls for independence within the United Kingdom.

On Monday, Northern Irish First Minister Michelle O’Neill joined leaders from Scotland and Wales in Cardiff, Wales. Together, they signed a joint declaration upholding the right to self-determination. The declaration seeks to initiate steps towards independence from the United Kingdom.

Scottish First Minister John Swinney, Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth, and Irish opposition leader Mary Lou McDonald were present as signatories to the declaration. They urged the British government to actively “prepare for, plan and facilitate” their demands for independence.

This unified call for self-determination signals a pivotal moment in UK politics, highlighting the regional leaders’ commitment to pursuing their respective goals for greater autonomy.
