The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is now open in Los Angeles, marking a significant project by George Lucas, known for creating the Star Wars franchise. The museum, co-founded by Lucas and Mellody Hobson, stands out with its distinctive design, resembling a spacecraft from outer space.

Architect Ma Yansong’s firm, MAD, designed the museum, which showcases Lucas’s extensive and eclectic personal collection of figurative art. The building spans over 300,000 square feet and features a wide array of artworks. Visitors can find ancient artifacts, Renaissance and baroque paintings, and a diverse assortment of other pieces, reflecting Lucas’s varied tastes.

The museum reportedly had a construction cost of approximately $1 billion. This high figure is evident in the structure’s unique architectural form and the vast collection it houses. The Lucas Museum aims to challenge traditional categorizations of art, presenting narratives from a range of cultures and historical periods.
