Chicago Bears fans watched in dismay as quarterback Caleb Williams limped off the field during the loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Williams, supported by two staffers, showed clear emotional distress, leading many to fear a severe injury.
Contrary to initial worries, head coach Ben Johnson shared that Williams’ right hamstring injury is a week-to-week issue, not season-ending. An MRI on Monday provided clarity about the strain’s severity. Johnson doesn’t expect Williams to practice this week but hasn’t ruled out his return in Week 3.
Williams’ reaction to the injury captured attention on social media. During “The Craig Carton Show,” OutKick’s Craig Carton criticized Williams’ on-field demeanor. Carton mentioned, “I don’t know why people thought it was his Achilles immediately. He reacted as if he had torn it, or his ACL.”
Carton compared Williams’ response to serious non-contact injuries and criticized the display of emotion. “Caleb acted like his career ended,” Carton said, pointing out that Bears fans, known for their traditional blue-collar values, might struggle to connect with Williams.
Carton added that despite Williams’ potential as a quarterback, his emotional display and previous actions, such as painting his fingernails pink, might alienate some fans. “You’ll root for him because he’s your quarterback, not because he aligns with Chicago’s tough image,” Carton noted.
Williams, however, is expected to recover without missing the entire season. Bears fans remain cautiously optimistic about their team’s prospects with Williams’ anticipated future return.
