Jury Tensions Arise in Lindsay Clancy Case

Plymouth, Mass. — A legal dispute has intensified in the Lindsay Clancy trial. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington has responded to criticism from Edward Paltzik, the lawyer representing the juror who sought to convict Clancy. Paltzik described Reddington’s motions as “Looney Tunes” and claimed they pose a threat to the Constitution. These comments stem from Reddington’s motions demanding an investigation into the juror’s actions.

Reddington responded, stating, “I think Ed ought to learn how to go into the courtroom and articulate his position rather than be a histrionic individual that’s just mouthing off for the media.” Reddington defended the legitimacy of his motions, emphasizing their foundation in law and facts.

Paltzik has also called for Clancy’s execution despite her lack of conviction and Massachusetts’ absence of a death penalty law. He criticized Reddington’s comments about Clancy’s juror as an agenda-driven individual who robbed other jurors of a decision.

Paltzik maintained, “I’m not backing down. I’m not backing off of it one inch. It should not be controversial at all that I called Lindsay Clancy a ‘demon.’ She strangled her three innocent children.” He argued that post-trial actions against the holdout juror represent an assault on the judicial system.

Michael Desronvil, the lone holdout juror identified by his attorney, believed Clancy was guilty of murdering her children. However, eleven other jurors sided with the defense’s argument focusing on postpartum psychosis, concluding she was not criminally responsible.

Due to the jury deadlock, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial. Reddington filed a motion requesting a “limited inquiry” into Desronvil’s background and potential criminal history. Additionally, Martin Weinberg, another attorney for Clancy, filed a motion to dismiss charges on double jeopardy grounds, citing alleged misconduct by the holdout juror.

Judge Sullivan’s ruling to declare a mistrial occurred after the jury foreperson accused Desronvil of ignoring instructions on reasonable doubt. Clancy is scheduled to return to court for further hearings, and prosecutors are expected to disclose their plans for a retrial.
